Don't Forget The Past

In 2004, the Yankees beat the Twins in the ALDS. A-Rod was one of the big factors in that win. In their third win of the ALCS, they walloped their opponent, scoring double digit runs, and looked like they had a safe lead in the series. A-Rod looked like a hero, the Yankees looked like they were headed back to the World Series. In many people's mind, the only question left was who would win the ALCS MVP. Winning the 4th game to wrap up the series just seemed like a formality.

Sounds familiar, doesn't it? In 2004, an overconfident Yankees team and fan base didn't see the wheels falling off the wagon, yet they were about to.

I have a lot more faith in this Yankees team because of the overall quality of the team, but don't underestimate the Angels in this series. I saw a New York Rangers team blow a 3-1 lead in last year's hockey playoffs to a very tough Washington Capitals team. This Angels team is tough as well.

The Angels throw John Lackey out there tomorrow and then get to face Andy Pettitte back in the Bronx if there is a Game 6 where he has not pitched great this season.

This is a great start to the postseason, but the Yankees still have 5 more wins to go to complete the voyage.
