Not-so-new look for Michael Sweetney

New York Knicks fans may remember their team's first pick in the 2003 NBA draft (9th overall) -- Michael Sweetney out of Georgetown. After playing in only 42 games as a Knick, Sweetney was dealt to Chicago in the Eddy Curry deal. Unfortunately for Sweetney, his weight got out of control and he failed to play in any NBA games from 2007-2009.

Sweetney recently got a shot to make this season's Boston Celtics roster. Elissa and I caught up with the Celtics on October 14 when they played the Toronto Raptors in a preseason game at the XL Center in Hartford. Below are a few (sad) pictures of how little Sweetney has accomplished in his mission to defeat weight gain.

Not surprisingly, the Celtics waived Sweetney on October 22. From No. 9 overall pick in 2003 to irrelevant-and-possibly-unemployed in 2009. Truly a sad story. And just in case Knicks fans are wondering who the Knicks could have had at No. 9 in 2003, here's a list of lower-drafted players that year:
  1. Sasha Pavlovic
  2. Boris Diaw
  3. Kendrick Perkins
  4. Leandro Barbosa
  5. Josh Howard
  6. Luke Walton
  7. Steve Blake
  8. Mo Williams
  9. Kyle Korver
