-Former VP Dick Cheney (no relation to Darth Vader) said in an interview to Politico that he thinks there's a "high probability" terrorists will attempt a massive nuclear or biological attack in coming years because of lax policies of the Obama administration. Seems pretty harsh for a White House that has ruled for two weeks. But then again, they ruled by fear politics so why not make it your legacy as well?
-I like Mike Mussina. And I sometimes appreciate Moose's bluntness...but this isn't really fair: “As great as [Mariano Rivera] is, and it’s amazing what he does, if you start the evaluation again since I’ve been here, he has accomplished nothing in comparison to what he accomplished the four years before. He blew the World Series in ‘01. He lost the Boston series. He didn’t lose it himself, but we had a chance to win in the ninth and sweep them and he doesn’t do it there. . . . That’s what I remember about the ‘04 series.”
Maybe if Moose would have lasted more than 3 innings in Game 1 of the 2001 World Series or gotten one more out in Game 1 of the 2004 ALCS (so Rivera wouldn't have had to come into a game the Yankees led 8-0) then those series could have gone differently as well. I loved Moose, but picking on Mo isn't going to go over so well.
-Bob Costas is joining the MLB Network, which already has a heck of a lineup. Today Time Warner Cable moved that station into HD so I'll be watching a lot more (as well as all the HBOs and a few other clutch HD stations).
-I only went to the Greenmarket a few times, but I always enjoyed seeing the "Peeler Guy" there. I was sad to read yesterday in the New York Times that he had passed (H/T Sarah)
-I'm no expert, but I think this has to be one of the first times a hockey series has been cancelled due to "impending volcanic eruption." No word if this is a lewd reference to males seeing "hockey mom" Sarah Palin at the game.
-Speaking of hockey, some people don't like the idea of this Slap Shot remake
-Remember the XFL? Chad Johnson would have been so happy with this league.
-Freakonomics: Tax Cheats or Tax Idiots?, an economist on the stimulus package (so many jokes to insert here on the stimulus package making consumer surplus into dead weight loss...) and the rebound effect of higher MPG
-Speaking of the environment, the 14 cleanest vehicles on the road.
-This really can't be good for the economy, can it?
-Avoiding death by powerpoint and Mother-in-Law Hell (H/T Wendy)
-Free Smashing Pumpkins MP3 (that name will bring you back...H/T Slickdeals)
-And supposedly this Madoff whistleblower was scared for his safety. Get real...he's a 70-year-old unintimidating Jewish guy. If that's who you're threatened by, you really need to take some karate lessons or something.
