I'll let Jayson Stark give you the trivia question for today:
@jaysonst: Mike & Mike trivia coming up in 4 minutes! Since Darryl Strawberry's '83 call-up, only 2 other Mets have hit 150+ HR. Name them!
Put your answers in the comments below. No cheating by listening in to the radio show!
BONUS Question (from ESPN's TMI Blog): Happy Birthday to the 1995 Atlanta Braves. Well, three of them at least. Greg Maddux, David Justice and Steve Avery were all born on April 14. Maddux posted an NL-best 1.63 ERA in 1995. Can you name the two other pitchers on that team that won an ERA title at some point in their career?

Just to clarify...this is anyone who has played for the Mets and who has hit 150+ homers while a member of the team?
ReplyDeletePiazza has to be one of them
ReplyDeleteYes. 150+ as a member of the team. Piazza is one of them. One more!
ReplyDeleteHoward Johnson?
ReplyDeleteHoward Johnson?
ReplyDeleteYup...that was an easy one. So I just put up a bonus question. Check out the question and put your answers below
ReplyDeleteAnd, by the way, the only other Mets with over 100 HR since 1983 are David Wright (143), Carlos Beltran (127), Todd Hundley (124), Kevin McReynolds (122), Edgardo Alfonzo (120), and Carlos Delgado (104)
ReplyDeleteRe: bonus question...I will guess Glavine and Smoltz but that might be too obvious. I'm probably wrong.
ReplyDeleteAmazingly, neither one is right. I was shocked too when I heard that.
ReplyDeleteHmm....let's go with Mark Wohlers and Kent Mercker
ReplyDeleteNeither one of those
ReplyDeleteHere's a hint: neither one won the ERA title while with the Braves. One won it before and one won it after.
ReplyDeleteNot enough? One more hint: one won it with the Dodgers and the other won it with the Giants
ReplyDeleteI looked up the roster and I got one of them but obviously won't post it
ReplyDeleteAlejandro Pena, Denny Neagle?
ReplyDeletePena is one correct answer! Neagle is not. Nice work, Tropers. One more!
ReplyDeleteJohn Burkett!! I believe he won with the Giants!
ReplyDeleteNot Burkett...he wasn't on the 1995 Braves
ReplyDeleteLast hint: the second guy won the ERA title for the Giants but came in second in the Cy Young voting to a guy who just retired (like yesterday).
ReplyDeleteAnd one more hint: the guy was traded for Denny Neagle
ReplyDeleteCharlie Liebrant??
ReplyDeletehaha...nope
ReplyDeleteWith Andrew's blessing I'll end the misery...it's Jason Schmidt.
ReplyDeleteThere we go...and, blissfully, it ends.
ReplyDeleteIf you guys want more to mull in the comments, here's one from last week: "Tomorrow is the 50th anniversary of the Indians trading Rocky Colavito to the Tigers for Harvey Kuenn. At the time, Colavito was just 26 and the reigning AL home run champ. Kuenn lasted just one season with the Tribe before he too was shipped off. Can you name the only four players with last names beginning in the letter C who have more career home runs than Colavito?"
This one is pretty hard
ReplyDeleteThe original juice boy himself - Jose Canseco!
ReplyDeleteOne answer is easy, two are hard (but doable), and the last is really difficult. To give you some guidance, Colavito had 374 career HRs.
ReplyDeleteThere we go. Paul got us started with the easy one.
ReplyDeleteA hint (not sure if this would help): all of them won World Series
ReplyDeleteGood hint! "Touch Em All" Joe Carter!!
ReplyDeleteThere we go! We have two!
ReplyDeleteAnother hint: the other two won their World Series in the late 60s
ReplyDeleteThis has to be a record for comments on one post. Haha. But I'll give you the answers since you all seem to be out of guesses. The last two are Orlando Cepeda and Norm Cash. Nice work today, boys!
