Wanted to send out a Happy Birthday wish to my dad, a loyal reader of the blog. I wrote about my dad back in April and I think it's a post worth reading if you haven't. I would have never loved sports as much (as so this blog would never have occurred) if it hadn't been for my dad.
Famous Yankees events on June 8th:
1935 - Lou Gehrig collides with Carl Reynolds on a play at first base and leaves the game with arm and shoulder injuries. His consecutive streak is preserved, in part, by a rainout of the next day's game and an open date.
1969 - New York Yankees' uniform No. 7 was retired on Mickey Mantle Day. A crowd of 60,096 came to Yankee Stadium to honor Mantle and watched New York sweep the Chicago White Sox 3 - 1 and 11 - 2.
1981 - The Yankees use their first round pick to take QB John Elway while the Rangers pick Ron Darling, with #9.
2005 - New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez became the youngest member of the 400-HR club when he hit a solo homer in the eighth inning of New York's 12 - 3 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers.
His birthday is also declared "the birth of the Porsche era".
Happy birthday Dad!
