3 Up, 3 Down

I just left Yankee Stadium after another Yankees win (I believe they are 8-2 in games I've gone to the Stadium this season so far). But while a win is a win is a win, I again left feeling less than satisfied. Here's some of the good and some of the bad

3 Up
-Robinson Cano. He was 4-4 and hit some rockets. One almost decapitated Nick Johnson and another whizzed by the pitcher. I am still pretty confused about him hitting 5th, but this was a big game for Robby.

-Yankees defense. Robby, when he has his head in the game, shows he's a pretty spectacular 2nd baseman. Mark Teixeira is showing again how valuable he can be just with his fielding with a few nice picks tonight. Melky made a highlight reel catch and Swisher looked solid in right. And Ramiro Pena showed, once again, why he should be a late-inning defensive replacement for Derek Jeter with a really nice play to end the game.

-The bullpen. Brian Bruney is back and, thankfully, Jose Veras is gone. Bruney came into a pressure cooker today (I thought Girardi said he wasn't doing that) and looked mighty comfortable out there. He joins a bullpen that has been really impressive lately (which I believe Tyler Kepner was the one who documented their recent success). And Mo looked like Mo again in the 9th.

3 Down
-CC's gopher ball. So in two consecutive starts, Sabathia has given up homers to David Ortiz, and now tonight a Mets-castoff who had zero homers so far this season. He's not the only member of the staff suffering from this either. He pitched great otherwise, but that one pitch really could have hurt him.

-The offense against a no-name starter. Same song, different verse. They had two pathetic hitting days in between beating the crap out of Johan Santana. Someone needs to tell them Santana is pitching tomorrow. Please.

-A-Rod. He looks totally lost out there. Give the man a day off. Put Pena in there for God sake. A-Rod really is killing them lately minus his one homerun in Boston. I mean killing them. He deserved to get booed today.

Regardless of the good and the bad, it's another one in the win column (and ask the 2007 or 2008 Mets how many ugly wins they would have taken). Another large crowd in the Bronx (can you believe it for Washington?). Their 22nd come-from-behind victory. And another win for CC Sabathia who is proving to be their ace, something they desperately needed for a while.

-Andrew
