Was reading through a Peter Abraham post yesterday and saw this: "Dave Robertson is 5-0 in his career with two one-pitch wins"
I said to myself that it must be rare to get one-pitch wins. How rare? Well, according to Baseball-Reference's Play Index, since 1954 there have now been exactly 100 games where a player has done that. Former Yankee Luis Vizcaino and former Met Rich Rodriguez lead with 3 such games and 10 players other than Robertson have 2 each.
One-pitch saves? According to PI, there have been 152 since 1954 and Trevor Hoffman and Dennis Eckersley lead that category with 4.
One-pitch loss? According to PI, there have been 39 since 1954 and former Yankee Mike Stanton leads all players with 2 (one I do remember was a home run by Brian Roberts in 2005).
One thing this proves? Wins, losses and saves are not created equal.
