Cy Rivera? Maybe Not, But He's Been Spectacular

I know this year has a crowded Cy Young field in the American League with starters Zack Grienke, Justin Verlander, Roy Halladay, Felix Hernandez, CC Sabathia, Josh Beckett and others having great season. Jon Heyman today ranked Rivera 6th on his Cy Young list (hopefully Mark Feinsand gives him some more love). But let's just take a second and look at Mariano Rivera. Since he allowed a run in a tie game against the Mets on June 12th (only to be bailed out by Luis Castillo's drop), here's what Rivera has done:

31 games, 31 IP, 14 hits, 3 XBH 1 run, 7 BB, 32 K, 0.29 ERA, .133/.188/.181 against (that's a .368 OPS against). His team is 31-0 in those games.

Not bad. For the season, he's leading the league with 39 saves, he has a 1.72 ERA, a WHIP of 0.884, and his rate of 10 K/9 would be his highest since he became a closer in 1997.
