Not-Yet-Opening Day Blues
- The New York Post writes that Francisco Cervelli's concussions could give the Yankees headaches and they are absolutely correct. This is the problem with not having a major-league-quality backup in camp. David Pinto of Baseball Musings writes that Cervelli will have to wear The Great Gazoo helmet (that David Wright wore last year for two games), but Craig Calcaterra of HarballTalk says that it's no laughing matter.
- The Yankees sold 3 million tickets before they even made season tickets available for the general public according to USA Today. Wow. New Stadium Insider has news on the Yankees' promotional dates and The Girl Who Loved Andy Pettitte has some ticket whines (I agree with her)
- Nomar retired with the Red Sox and the Boston Herald found it strange and Pretty In Pinstripes calls it "bullsh*t". FanGraphs looks at Nomar's career, ESPN's TMI blog looks at what might have been had Nomar not gotten hurt, and Rob Neyer of ESPN says this is a lesson for all.
- Baseball Prospectus ranks the Yankees farm system near the bottom of baseball (you would expect that after trading for guys like Granderson and Vazquez this summer) and Kei Igawa is trying to work his way out of the minors according to the New York Times
- Joe Girardi and Jorge Posada filming a commercial from USA Today. Granderson in the Jetermobile courtesy of The New York Times. And more from The Times on the Yankees "gamble" for Nick Johnson.
- Ian O'Connor of The Record says that Jeter still wants Yogi's rings and Anthony McCarron of The New York Daily News looks at Jeter's place in all-time Yankees history.
- Sam Borden of the Yankees LoHud Blog has some good reasons why you shouldn't get too caught up with Spring stats but this anti-stats rant that Craig Calcaterra talks about is quite odd. Baseball Prospectus takes on the "Hot Hand" theory within this piece.
- Baseball Prospectus looks into the contracts of the AL East teams and Peter Schmuck of The Baltimore Sun says that unbalanced scheduling is unfair (I don't agree with him). Joe Posnanski looks at the Rule 5 draft. The New York Times writes that Major League Baseball will now stream all of ESPN's events (odd, but true)
- Former Yankee Morgan Ensberg has a good blog says Craig Calcaterra and Kevin Youkilis is looking for a good shave from WHDH-TV (H/T Jenn). A Philadelphia writer takes on a New York reader courtesy of NoMass. Jonah Hill may be in the Moneyball movie according to Cinema Blend.
We Do Write About Other Sports Here
- The Knicks set a record by missing so many 3s according to USA Today. The Knicks have season ticket subscibers sold on the hype of LeBron James according to Darren Rovell of CNBC.
- Glenn "Big Baby" Davis was almost Michael Oher in The Blind Side according to The Big Lead. Bitter Lawyer has the top five sports agents who are lawyers (H/T Jay)
- Deadspin says that Cromartie's entire Jets bonus went to his baby mamas and Deadspin again on why Sidney Crosby hates America
- Ken Tremendous has a picture of Aziz Ansari from Parks and Recreation with Detlef Schrempf. Awesome.
- Also awesome, this 11-year-old who got to blow up Texas Stadium from the Dallas Morning News
- Likes: Seinfeld's Van from the New York Times, LOST: Baywatch Edition from the Huffington Post (H/T Jay), "My Way" from the New York Times, a guy living off of Craiglist for 9 months from Mediabistro, and (this is awesome) famous movie quotes from FlowingData
- Dislikes: Boston sucking from Deadspin, crazy shit from the Chilean earthquake from the LA Times, the Oscars "Kanye" moment from PopEater, and, as always that hypocrite Sarah Palin
