Yanquís Béisbol
- The ESPN.com TMI Blog tells us why Derek Jeter should hit 6th and NoMass says they've been telling us that for a while. I don't care what the statistics say, it's a horrible idea.
- Speaking of Jeter, he and Mariano Rivera were named in Brian McNamee's brief according to ESPN.com
- Speaking of Rivera, The New York Daily News goes over how Rivera became "Mo" and while the New York Times thinks the Yankees' "Core Four" is due for a down year, Rob Neyer of ESPN.com doesn't think so.
- The New York Times Ben Shpigel takes a look at Jesus Montero and John Sickels of Minor League Ball talks to the Yankees' Mark Newman about the next big prospects. MLBTradeRumors has details about one prospect the Yankees missed out on
- Buster Olney has some really good bits about Jorge/AJ and Nick Johnson within this ESPN blog post.
- LoHud's Chad Jennings takes a look at how all the ex-Yankees are doing. Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review has a nice piece on Jose Tabata and the Seattle Times writes about Kanekoa Texeira. Another ex-Yankee, Chuck Knoblauch pled guilty.
- Jason @ IIATMS says why Joe Mauer in Pinstripes is not a good idea, Rob Neyer says why it's not a good idea yet, and Craig Calcaterra of HardballTalk posts about the ridiculous Pujols-in-Pinstripes FOX Sports mess. Mike from River Avenue Blues talks about the possibility of Elijah Dukes in Pinstripes and Mike Silva at NY Baseball Digest says that The Boss would have signed Dukes (I disagree because of the lack of track record there).
- This Purist Bleeds Pinstripes has a really nice post on good moments in down Yankee years and Deadspin predicts that this will be a down Yankee year...or just rails on Yankee players and fans. For all the Yankee spending, the Baseball Prospectus' "All Paid By My Former Employer Team" only has one Yankee and that's really nitpicking it with Melky Cabrera. MLB.com's Bryan Hoch has his Yankee team of the decade. Oh, and Ronan Tynan's an asshole.
Other Baseball News:
- HardballTalk was all over the Ron Washington story: First on him testing positive, then on him being blackmailed, and finally on managers and substance abuse. And Craig's primer on cocaine in baseball is a really good read, too. Matt at Fack Youk has some more thoughts on Washington.
- Joe Posnanski has a great post about Pedro Feliz, Jose Guillen, and other bad hitters who hit for a "high" amount of RBIs. I wanted to write a follow-up post but I think that Joe has it covered.
- Citi Field's modifications can be seen by Tom Kaminski on Chopper 880
- When Ranger Rants has their blog post titled "Well, The Weather's Nice..." you know it was a bad night last night in Rangers-land. Scott Burnside and Pierre LeBrun both wrote that Henrik Lundqvist had to lead the Rangers to the playoffs, and quite frankly, neither King Henrik nor his court played with enough urgency last night to prove they care that much. The Rangers and Islanders will be broadcasting the first sports event in 3D.
- I have to say that I loved ESPN's 30 for 30 called "Winning Time" about Reggie Miller vs. the Knicks. It was extremely well done...but very painful to relive at times. Here are The Big Lead and Deadspin's reviews.
- This is not MSG sports, but it's a good SportsCenter piece on how much the Jets really loved LDT
- I also LOVED the Tiger Woods-centric South Park episode that was their season premiere. Not sure where it ranks, but definitely top-20 and probably top-10 all-time. Jason @ IIATMS writes about it here. TVOvermind talks about why LOST's Matthew Fox may be the next Tiger Woods (not really to that scale yet) and The Big Lead on "The Best Actress Curse"
- An amazing 15-year-old article on the Interwebs from Newsweek (H/T Jay)
- Cake vs. Pie from Hyerbole and a Half (H/T Sarah)
- America's wealthiest religions from GOOD
