I've been neglecting following them all season (and I feel horrible for it)...but wanted to congratulate the Brandeis women's basketball team which was ranked #5 in the latest poll. I wondered how the team would respond to losing Jaime Capra and Kiersten Holgash...but so far, so good. Again, we can't get too ahead of ourselves because the Judges are yet to play UAA games. And with three other teams ranked in the top 25, and two other teams just below, this conference in stacked once again. But the first test will certainly be tonight when they host #1 seed Rochester at Red Auerbach Arena in Waltham, Mass.
I got into this team about 5 1/2 years ago through my time at WBRS (where you can listen live to the game tonight). I'll add more about this in a later post, but the experience broadcasting both the men and the women's basketball team was amazing. As an alum, I always look forward to the NYU game in New York (Brandeis' biggest rivals). Unfortunately, I planned a flight for the game this year (Feb. 28). Fortunately, that flight will be going to New Zealand. But I'm sure there will be a certain "super fan" who certainly will make up for my loss.
Speaking of WBRS, Wolinsky and I met Ira Kleinman, one of the founders of WBRS, last night at a Brandeis alumni event. Pretty cool.
Also on the list of "cool", is Kiplinger listing Brandeis at 16 among the top values in private universities. The only other schools ranked above them in the Northeast you may have heard: Yale, Princeton, Harvard, Dartmouth, MIT, UPenn and Brown...not too shabby company.
