Yanks Record By Month 1994 - Present

It took a while for him to put something together, but finally we have Paul as a guest blogger on NYaT! Paul has made his way into many posts via H/Ts and mentions of his desire for Joba to be in the bullpen. Actually, "Tropers" may be Mike Francesa's long-lost son with the fervor he believes n Joba Chamberlain being in the bullpen. Paul grew up in Massachusetts, went to UMASS-Amherst, and married a Red Sox fan (who does that!?), but his loyalty is all to New York, especially to the New York Yankees and the New York Football Giants.

This post he helped prepare is all about the Yankees. Paul analyzed the Yankees seasons month-by-month since 1994. He wanted to show how consistent the Yankees really have been by month over this span. I think that Paul just wanted to quell his pessimism that this season was over. So he crunched the numbers and I put his data into a Google Spreadsheet.

A few observations from Paul:

-Sept/Oct records since 2001 were very similar and, in some cases, identical

-The Yankees 1998 records by month were ridiculous

-April was generally not a good month for the Bronx Bombers

-1995- 57-59 record through August, then went 22-6 to get in playoffs

A few more things:

-Another observation about that 1995 team: that September was the best month of any Yankee month since 1994. They won a ridiculous 78% of their games to capture the first ever AL Wild Card.

-That 2000 team was infamous for limping down the stretch. But they were actually worse in June than they were in September (which tells you how good they've were the rest of the year)

-The only two teams to lose 10 games every month? Oddly the 1996 and 2008 teams. One started the dynasty and the other ended the playoff streak.

Good stuff by Paul!
