Deep wounds heal slowly

I just read this gem from Jayson Stark of ESPN.com:

In case you were wondering, Carl Pavano never beat the Red Sox as a Yankee, but he did go 0-1, with a 6.30 ERA, a 2.10 WHIP and 19 hits allowed in 10 innings. So how'd Pavano do in his first start against the Red Sox as an Indian on Wednesday? He beat them, of course (6 IP, 2 ER).

Look, we Yankees fans love to boo certain players, whether it's for playing "heroically" with a ketchup-stained sock (see: Schilling, Curt), for refusing to respect legends in the field (see: Papelbon, Jon), or for simply being a Yankee killer (see: Ramirez, Manny).

But nobody deserves more boos than Carl Pavano. His stats as a Yankee say it all. Four years, $39.95 million, and 9 wins. Not to mention countless injuries (including a strained buttocks and two cracked ribs he sustained in a car accident he "forgot" to tell the team about). Yet now that he's with Cleveland, he is making every start and beating the Red Sox. As famously said in "Half Baked" -- BOO THIS MAN!
