This About Sums It Up For the Yankees...

Leave it to Joel Sherman to put this light on the Yankees. As this was before the loss yesterday, you can now add Jorge Posada's DL stint and an 0-4 start against the Red Sox to the list. Oy:

The Yankees have jammed an awful lot of bad stuff into the first month of the season. They spent $423.5 million this offseason on Mark Teixeira, A.J. Burnett and C.C. Sabathia. Teixeira is hitting .182, which is tied for the 188th among the 195 players qualified for the batting title. Sabathia is 1-3 with a 4.85 ERA. Burnett has had some high moments, but his 5.40 ERA ranks tied for 73rd among the 92 players currently qualified for the ERA title. So it isn't exactly great bang for the buck.
On the subject of bang from the buck, the Yanks have gotten zero so far from the most expensive player in the majors, , who is rehabbing after hip surgery. Chien-Ming Wang has been the majors' worst starter, which is really saying something in a sport that also houses Oliver Perez and Carl Pavano. They now have both of their primary set-up men, Brian Bruney and Damaso Marte, on the DL, and set-up relief has been, by far, their weakest area.
Brett Gardner already has lost his center field job, the Yanks' new stadium is a much-ridiculed launching pad and they were humiliated in a three-game sweep by their top nemesis, the Red Sox.
Yet they are 13-11. Is that a lucky 13-11? Does that 13-11 say that this is a gritty team that can take some punches? We will find out, but the Yanks have certainly had a lot go wrong and have not been buried.

Meanwhile, bad, bad job by the Yankees who according to Sliding Into Home (via Daily News) royally screwed up last night. Supposedly some of those guys with the popsicle stick sign saying "How may I help you?" told people the game would be cancelled, so they left...and when trying to get back in, they were met with a strict "no reentry". That's rough. The Yankees wanted everyone to sit through over 2 hours of rain delays and then wouldn't let those who were mistakenly told the game wouldn't be played back in. And some people got pissed enough to cause a near riot. Great. Hopefully they fix their mistakes tonight.
