A Rod Being A Rod
Nothing Alex Rodriguez does surprises me anymore. Even comments that are meant to be taken as harmless are misconstrued to be used against. Yesterday's comments regarding Mets shortstop Jose Reyes fall into the same category. Rodriguez, who has been working out alongside Reyes for Team Dominican Republic, made a statement praising the talent of the youthful Reyes. He even went so far as to say that he "wish(es) [Reyes] was leading off on our team or playing on our team, that's fun to watch." While the comment was intended to be harmless, Rodgriguez seemed to forget that he had a controversial rivalvry with that guy who plays shortstop for his own team. Rodriguez made an attempt to ensure that the comments weren't taken with malice and I'm sure they were not. But if Alex had thought about his comments for about 10 seconds more before saying them, he might have realized that his comments of praise would almost certainly be used against. To quote one of my coworkers, you would think that Alex would benefit from some sort of 15 second delay on anything that comes out of his mouth.
