MLB 10: The Show vs. MLB 2K10

In follow up to my last post, I promised a brief comparison of this year's baseball game offerings.

MLB 2K10 (PS3 Demo):
Last year's release, MLB 2K9, represented another step backwards for this franchise. It suffered from frame rate issues, poor gameplay, and just wasn't a realistic baseball simulation. 2K Sports looked to improve upon this and the results are an improved game with a better visual experience and improved gameplay. The game still has a way's to go, however, if it wants to be considered an elite baseball gaming experience. As Andrew mentioned, 2K Sports has tried to garner interest in the game by offering one million dollars to the first person who pitches a perfect game. They also decided to use an aggressive advertising campaign, featuring several major leaguers, including Evan Longoria, Justin Verlander, and Felix Hernandez.

MLB 10: The Show:
Sony already has a great product and has improved upon it annually. This year was no exception. The game is both graphically pleasing and graphically accurate (you will easily recognize faces). As far as gameplay goes, Sony keeps it simple and you can figure out how to play the game within about five minutes. The game also features some great unlockables, such as old-time stadiums (Note-I did not get a chance to test this feature on MLB 2K10, but it's quite possible that this feature is available as well). I had a fun time learning how to play the corners in the Polo Grounds.

The Verdict:
If you own a Playstation 3, there really shouldn't be any decision. MLB 10: The Show is the way to go. If you own an Xbox 360, unfortunately, you are out of luck and will have to get by with MLB 2K10. Don't get me wrong, you will still enjoy playing MLB 2K10, but it just isn't the same experience.

IGN.com, the leader in video game reviews, has posted reviews for both games. They seem to agree with me. Check it out!

  1. Figured I'd throw this up in the comments because it was posted just to me on Twitter:

@BigBlueAL1980: @NoYoureATowel I just got my copy of the Show in the mail today. I LOVE the Show much better than 2k, hope EA gets the rights back in 2011.
