You Can Get With This Or You Can Get With That: Week 3

Last week we had our first guest post from our Fantasy Football expert, Ben. We're going to try to make this a weekly occurrence so here is post #2. Ben was mostly dead on last week (save for Jay Cutler) nailing LeSean McCoy, Donovan McNabb, Ahmad Bradshaw and Louis Murphy. Here's what he says for your fantasy team in Week 3:
Flacco is no longer playing the Jets or Bengals so get with him in Week 3 (FOX News)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Get with Joe Flacco not with Jay Cutler.

I know I got burned on my Cutler blast week, but I’m happy to go double or nothing. Cutler and the Bears have another stiff test with the capable Green Bay Defense. The Pack has only given up 270 passing yards over the first two games and played a big part in the highly touted Kevin Kolb losing his starting gig. Clay Matthews has emerged as one of the premier pass rushing outside line backers and Jay Cutler will be fighting for his life again this week. The Packers also have the ball-hawking Woodson at cornerback, and while he’s getting up there in years, he still has some game left. There are going to be ups and downs for Cutler in Mike Martz’s high risk offense, and this week I think we are poised for a down.

Joe Flacco is coming off of a very bad game against a tough Bengals secondary. This week, however, he gets what should be an easier opponent with the Cleveland Browns. The Browns have not given up many passing yards either, but their two opponents (Tampa Bay and Kansas City) have not exactly tested the Brown’s young secondary. Flacco is still building chemistry with his new passing weapons, and I think he will get better as the season goes on. Last year, Baltimore was one of the best teams at using the screen pass. I think this week they get back to it to build Flacco’s confidence after last week, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see Ray Rice take one of those to the house.

Get with Clinton Portis not with Jahvid Best.

Jahvid Best had a huge day last week against the Eagles. With 230 total yards and 3 TD’s the rookie announced to the league that he is dangerous both running and receiving. However, take Best’s best run out of the equation last week, and Best average 2.8 YPC. In week 1, Best’s YPC was 1.4. Against a stout Vikings front 7 this week, Best will have a tough time getting it done on the ground, and 9 catch 150 yard games are tough to come by for running backs. Best will also not be sneaking up on anyone else this year. Look for him to come back to earth this week.

With Larry Johnson gone in Washington, Portis will get an even larger share of the load on what looks like a pretty good Redskins Offense. In his days in Denver, Shanahan always had balanced offenses, so I doubt we see another 38 to 17 pass/run split like we did last week, especially against the Rams. The Redskins will move the football this week and Portis will be the one doing it on the ground--he will also be the one punching it in the end zone.

Get with Dewayne Bowe not with Jeremy Maclin.

I liked Jeremy Maclin coming into this season. With Kolb at QB and a full on west coast offense approach, I thought Maclin would see a lot of balls coming his way. However, with Vick at the helms there will be less short, quick pass plays for the Eagles. Maclin has found the end zone in each of the first two weeks, but he has not topped 40 yards in either game. It’s hard to rely on touchdowns from receivers, especially when they are not the team’s number one option. Jacksonville has looked susceptible to the pass, so a lot of people will be looking to Jackson and Maclin to have big days, but I don’t think either, especially Maclin, can be relied on to produce on a weekly basis.

After a one catch effort on a rainy Monday night in week 1, Bowe was more involved in the offense week 2, with 4 catches and I think this trend will continue week 3 against San Francisco. The 49ers have a stout defense, but its talent lies more in stopping the run with Patrick Willis at linebacker than at stopping the pass. They kept the game against the Saints close last week by limiting them to only 50 yards on 24 rushes. Bowe is by far the Chiefs best receiver and they will have to get him the ball if they want to have any success on offense. Nate Clements was once a very good corner, but at 30 years old I think Bowe will be able to take advantage with his freakish athleticism and jumping ability.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thanks again to Ben for this post. I definitely agree with him about staying away from Jay Cutler when possible this week. He performed horribly last year when he was on national TV and this game is a Monday Night game against the very tough defense on the Packers. The bright lights and the Pack D may be a recipe for disaster for Cutler. Let us know your thoughts about who to start or who to sit in Week 3 in the comments below.
