No, no worries ladies, I am not tying the knot. Still single and available.
In fact what I will be doing (and you should as well) on Sunday, September 27, is probably not good for any guys married life. Under mounting pressure from its fans after scheduling two consecutive home games on Jewish High Holidays - the first Rosh Hashanah, the second Yom Kippur - the Jets and NFL sought to make it right and have moved up the start-time of the Sept 27th game to 1pm.
The sets up quite possibly the most epic New York sports 3 hour stretch in decades. Your 1pm TV schedule:
1) Tenessee Titans AT New York Jets. Giants Stadium. 1:00pm Start.
2) New York Giants AT Tampa Bay Buccaneers. RJ Stadium, Tampa FL. 1:00pm Start.
3) New York Mets AT Florida Marlins. Dolphins Stadium, Miami FL. 1:00pm Start.
4) Boston Red Sox AT New York Yankees. Yankee Stadium. 1:00pm Start.
Holy split screen, batman! New York sports fans are going to need a picture in picture for their picture in picture - or at least two separate tvs each with picture and picture. Deciding what game to focus on will be no easy task. Since the football season is all of 16 games every game is significant every week - no one can be ignored. As for the baseball - yes the season is very very long, but Sunday September 27th marks the start of the home stretch, and despite the early season struggles of both NY clubs, at LEAST one of them is likely to be a factor down the stretch. Both baseball matchups are also very intriguing - the Sox are obviously the Yanks biggest rival, perhaps the biggest in sports, and the Marlins have had the pleasure of bouncing the Mets out of playoff contention on the last weekend of September the past two seasons. I think some payback is in order.
So fans, I could be bitter about the Jets botching the schedule and then forcing this quadruple conundrum on us - but I'm not. For this is what sports is all about, what I live for. Three hours of non-stop action (you probably won't have to watch a SINGLE commercial from 1-4pm).
Strap in, setup the DVR and grab some chips and beer. September 27th, a short 22 weeks away.
