You Can Get With This Or You Can Get With That Week 6

Get with Kevin Kolb not with Matt Ryan
It's Kevin Kolb's time to shine in Philly (Reuters)

Matt Ryan and the Falcons are off to a very good start, as they’ve established themselves as one of the top teams in the NFC. Ryan has been solid posting an 87 QB rating. However, numbers can be deceiving. If you take out a 3 touchdown game against a weak Arizona team, Ryan has 4 TD’s and 3 Picks in his other 4 games. The bottom line is that the Falcons are a running team, and this will be especially true against the Eagles on Sunday. The Eagles like to blitz a lot and have been a top pass defense for years. They have good young safeties and Asante Samuel is the definition of a ball hawking corner. The Eagles also lost their best Defensive Tackle last week for the season and will be a little soft up the middle. I don’t think that Ryan will have a bad game, but I don’t think he’ll have the opportunity to throw much more than 200 yards or get many touchdowns.

Kevin Kolb will probably get another start this week with Vick ailing. He played well last week against a solid 49ers defense, throwing for over 250 yards. With another full week of practicing with the first team, I think those numbers can even improve as the Eagles try and get their best weapon, Desean Jackson, more involved. The Saints have been the only good passing team the Falcons have played, and in that game Brees went off for 365 yards. Kolb is no Brees, but the Falcons are certainly vulnerable. If Kolb plays, he plays well.

Get With Felix Jones not with Michael Bush

Michael Bush played very well last week while filling in for the injured Darren McFadden. McFadden is still hobbled, but he’s done some practicing this week and I think he will get into the mix and take some touches away from Bush. San Francisco also poses a much bigger threat to the Oakland running game than San Diego did last week. San Francisco is having a very disappointing season and will certainly be playing angry and desperate. A desperate defense and less carries equals less of an impact for Bush.

The Cowboys finally did what they promised and featured Felix Jones as the feature back last week. He responded in a big way, gaining almost 140 total yards on 19 touches. This week Jones faces the Vikings who didn’t look so hot against the Jets running game last week. The Vikings strength is the Williams brothers clogging up the middle. This is bad news for Marion Barber’s between the tackles game, but I don’t think it will affect Jones as he routinely bounces outside into space. Besides for the interceptions, the Cowboys offense looked very good last week with its run/pass balance. I think it will continue this week and as the season goes on.

Get With Eddie Royal not with Brandon Lloyd

Since both these guys are on the same team, I’ll explain myself with one paragraph. Denver has proved to have lots of depth at the receiver position and their players all have different skills they use to exploit other teams and create mismatches. This week I think Royal is the mismatch. I learned two things from the Jets game on Monday. One is that Revis is not quite healthy. Normally he’s dominant and he looked pedestrian last week. The other is that it is very hard to throw deep on Cromartie. He’s too fast and too long. He won all the jump balls with Moss as the one touchdown to him was a perfect throw. Cromartie will blanket Lloyd who has been very a very effective deep threat this year. Royal will have the game Harvin did last week. Royal is a very quick slot receiver and when the Jets bring the pressure, Orton will look his way.
